Adagunodo Resumes As National Vice Chairman, South West, Holds Inaugural meeting

The newly nominated National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the South West, His Excellency, Hon. Clement Olasoji Adagunodo officially resumed work at the Zonal Office of the party this morning Tuesday, 14th December, 2021 with all members of the Zonal Executives in attendance.

The Handing over of instruments of office to Hon. Adagunodo was performed by the Zonal Secretary of the party, Hon. Rahman Owokoniran who delivered a keynote address after the opening prayer by a Muslim Cleric, Imam Mudirudeen.

Below is the handover speech delivered by Hon. Owokoniran.

HANDOVER SPEECH BY HON RAHMAN OWOKONIRAN, THE ACTING ZONAL CHAIRMAN, PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY, SOUTHWEST ZONE ON TUESDAY 14TH DECEMBER 2021

Leaders of Our great Party here present

Gentlemen of the Press,

Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen. 

I am delighted to stand before you this day to perform the special task of handing over the reins of leadership of our great party in the southwest zone to our new chairman and leader, the National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. Olasoji Clement Adagunodo. 

The choice of Osogbo, the Osun State capital as the venue for the SouthWest Congress of Monday 12th April 2021 which gave birth to the incumbent Zonal Executive Council was never a happenstance; the emergence of our new Zonal Chairman who was the Osun State Chairman of the party has revealed that God has a hand in all these. The elevation of our immediate past Zonal Chairman, His Excellency Amb. Taofeek Arapaja to the exalted position of the Deputy National Chairman of our great party on Sunday 31st October 2021 can be described as an act of God to actualize what he had planned for the strongman of Osun politics. 

The good working relationship and excellent camaraderie we enjoyed under the leadership of H.E. Amb. Taofeek Arapaja within his brief stay in office was the secret behind the huge mileage this Zonal Executive has gained. The team spirit and exemplary leadership style are outstanding. We hit the ground running and the 22 man team successfully fused with a common goal and mutual respect. This greatly helped me in the brief moment I had to midwife and coordinate the administration of the Zone in an acting capacity. 

We will forever be grateful to God for the gift he graciously gave us in the South West. The gift of a humane leader, a God-sent, caring, considerate and magnanimous, His Excellency Governor Oluseyi Makinde. He is our motivation, our mentor, our encouragement. He promised and fulfilled, “he talks and do”, his integrity is unimpeachable and his character, impeccable. Thank you so much, your excellency, my governor. 

The unanimous decision of the Zonal Executive to queue behind the nomination of Hon. Olasoji Clement Adagunodo as the new Zonal Chairman is a result of our conviction of his competence, credibility, and capacity to lead the zone to safe harbour. His pedigree and antecedent speak volumes about his willingness, ability, and readiness to deliver the South West for PDP. I am sure that he will enjoy the total and unflinching support of the Zonal team and together we shall win.

Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, permit me at this point, to appreciate all our leaders across the six states in the southwest zone, members of the national assembly, members of the Oyo State government, the Speaker, and honorable members of the state assembly, all party faithful, friends, and lovers of our great party. We covet your continuous support and cooperation with our new chairman and the team. 

Once again, I appreciate the privilege to serve.

Hon. Rahman Owokoniran

In another development, shortly before the handing over ceremony was concluded on of the Governorship Aspirants of PDP in Osun State and his entourage, Hon. Sanya Omirin breezed into the venue of the program and he donated two sets of Split Units of Air Conditioners to the Zone for use of the party.

The Zonal Executives in their response expressed gratitude to Hon. Sanya Omirin for the donation of the Air-Conditioners and prayed that God will see him through in his bid to become the next Governor of Osun State.

In his response, Hon. Adagunodo thanked the entire South West Executives of the party for standing by him and considering him for the position of the National Vice Chairman during the selection process.

He also thanked the Executive Governor of Oyo State and leader of the party in the South West Region for standing by the party at all times. He therefore promised to work hard for the party's success in the coming elections, especially in Ekiti and Osun State in 2022 which will be the window to the general election of 2023.
