Sunday Daramola, Abuja December 08, 2025
The Osun State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Dipo Eluwole has been named the best performing Commissioner for Education in Nigeria by the National Education Debate Icon Award, Abuja on Tuesday December 2nd, 2022.
Hon. Dipo Eluwole whose excellent performance as Honourable Commissioner for education has contributed immensely to the educational upgrade was named the best among other state Commissioners of Education in a well attended program which attracted dignitaries across the country.
Part of the recommendations which earned Osun Commissioner this all-important award have been attributed to the sterling performances of the students of Osun public schools in various debates across the world and the recent results in WAEC external examinations in the country since the inception of Senator Ademola Adeleke's administration on November 27, 2022.
Part of the performance index which gave Osun State elevation that made Commissioner DIPO Eluwole1 number one among his peers include the following:
(1) Before the advent of Senator Ademola Adeleke as Osun State Governor, the state ranked number 33 at WAEC external examinations ratings and the best that Osun was able to achieve during that time was number 29 out of the 36 states but within 2 years of Adeleke's government, Osun State moved to number 7 best performing state in WAEC SSCE and other external examination ratings.

(2) According to another report from Osun Education watch, during the APC administration, schools were shut down due to religious pandemonium during which time students of all religions came to school in Muslim Hijabs, Christian Chorister Uniforms and Egungun costumes which led to closure of schools for several months, notable among which was that of Iwo axis but all those distractions were permanently nipped in the bud during Adeleke's government. Before the inception of the current government in 2022 Osun was nicknamed "the home of out of school children" in the South West but all that is history now.
(3) The Adeleke administration at inception put up a lot of reforms into school administration in terms of infrastructures and modifications of policies that are student friendly and there was enrollment of 11,000 pupils in the phase 1 of the back-to-school program through the School Feeding popularly called "O'Meal program" for pupils of primary 1 to 3 before the Federal Government seized the local government allocation to Osun State.

(4) Also for easy identification of students of individual school with a view to identifying erring students, the single uniform policy of all state owned primary and secondary schools was changed to their pre-APC administration policy which allows each school to go and design its school uniforms. This decision also led to economic breakthrough among traders and suppliers of fabrics in the markets in Osun State.
(5) Before the seizure of the LG funds Osun State Government was partnering with the local government at 60% and 40% funding of the school feeding program from their allocations respectively.
(6) Another feat that Osun State performed in education was excellent performance of our children in the current WAEC SSCE exam where Osun Indigene came first among the best three students throughout the country. A report of West African Examinations Council's 63rd meeting which was held in late November, 2025 in Umuahia, Abia State also praised Osun State government for having a public/State Government student coming first in this year's (2025) WAEC result and the name of the student is Ajisafe Olamilekan from Osun State.
(7) In November 2024, Osun State students represented Nigeria at the international Presidential Debate in Malaysia during which they emerged as the world's best. Their names are Salawa from Methodist High School Ilesa, Mercy from Gbonmi Osogbo and Esther from Ila Grammar School, Ila-Orangun, reports confirmed that they are all students of Osun State owned government/public schools.
(8) The monumental Infrastructural developments in school infrastructures in both Primary and secondary schools across the state are unprecedented, the SUBEB has also turned things around in the school enrolment since our children are now learning under conducive environments and not under threes or inside dilapidated or broken down roofs. Over 1,000 primary and 600 secondary schools have received infrastructure upgrade since inception of this administration.
(9) These and many more led to the official invitation of the Osun State Commissioner for Education to the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja where he explained to them how Osun was running the school feeding program where they agreed with him and came up with the slogan of "if Osun can do it, other states can do it and Nigeria can do it."
(10) These and many more earned the Osun State Commissioner the "Best Performing Commissioner of Education" aware recently.
The Commissioner and eleven others were given awards but Hon. Dipo Eluwole was named the BEST AMONG HIS EQUALS, NUMERO UNO by the Federal Government.
